I've been a software developer for 30 years now and this is one of the best videos I've seen which explains what is needed to be a good software developer. I keep telling people that it's becoming less and less about "coding" and more and more about problem solving. For example: No one is ever going to tell you to write a function that takes a list of integers and calculates the sum. You are just going to get some vague requirement from a user or business owner and you are going to have to work out yourself that one of the components to solving this requirement is writing said function.

Multiply the coolness by 10 if you write everything in Rust.

If you want a big tech job in the US then the first step, assuming youre any good, is to not be American. Give up your citizenship and move to another country, and then apply. Im not kidding or trying to start anything but its true. So many of us in the tech industry despite our skill level and tenure have gotten laid off. Its honestly better to find smaller companies or be self employed in the US. Cant speak for anywhere else though.

I'm sure it's a well thought out. Put together. Motivational and insightful video. But, I have not watched it. And maybe we might agree. But the only reason why you "can't do programming." Is because you just are not mad enough yet. You don't get into code because you thought it would lead to a good career path. You don't get into it because maybe it could be fun. No. One day. Some how. For some reason. Your brand new, arguably too expensive gaming mouse decided that it wasn't going to connect. And what was once a fantasy job. Is now you sitting 60 tutorials in a power shell command. Only for video 61 to tell you to "plug it in".

Another reason why programming is hard is trying to understand if people like this RUclips channel are really out to help you bc they care about helping you, or if they're just generating content for sponsors or to make money. How is a complete beginner supposed to know people's true intentions? Especially when they don't even know how to get their feet wet.

I find very relatable this video, cause when I started my programming classes in a vocational school i used to struggle a lot, I felt dumb back then when I couldnt resolve a programming problems or any assigments that they gave me. But as you said, everything can be done with hardwork and patience

i wish i could find a therapist who specialises in programmer impostor syndrome and anxiety. I technically have an advanced diploma in games programming, ive been unwell and felt like i lost skills, i used to make minecraft mods, and now i cane barely make a workspace run with the API. I brings me to literal tears and i just dont know how to build the resilience when its that draining and emotional to even work on that.

I started to learn programming when I was 16...using a GWBasic manual and trying to use it for the Basic version that came pre installed on my IBM-PS1 back in 93 (at that time with NO INTERNET) all I had was that book, no other help. It was very demotivating at first but then I got hooked

I will never understand how developers can be working for someone else when they can create their own thing. I mean out of all the developers in the world less than 5% have create their own thing. It’s unbelievable!
